YouTube purge of crypto-centred channels was the talk of the town from the last couple of days. After remaining mute throughout the debate, Youtube has finally responded saying it was an error on their part and they have restored all the videos and channels which were deleted in the last couple of days. The purge specifically targeted crypto channels even those which only had educational videos. Even today Google removed 'Metamask', a decentralized bridge to use the decentralized internet from its play store.

The purge created a lot of confusion as there were no prior warning on why all this was happening. Many prominent names in the decentralized space even called for the formation of a decentralized video sharing platform amid all the drama. It was being speculated that the crackdown was a sign of tough regulatory measures coming ahead. Youtube in their statement noted that they were working to bring more transparency and provide more information to content creators on policy and trademark violation.

The official statement from Youtube read,

"With the massive volume of videos on our site, sometimes we make the wrong call. When it's brought to our attention that a video has been removed mistakenly, we act quickly to reinstate it."

The Call For Decentralized Platforms Amid Youtube Purge

While Youtube did accept their mistake and called it an error in flagging the video, but the concerns were more towards communication blockage and no response from the platform when many content creators are solely dependent on the platform for their livelihood. Youtube's dominance among video hosting and sharing platforms is quite similar to USDT's dominance in the stable coin arena. The last two days when hundreds of channels were being purged youtube decided to keep mum and not respond to any of the complaints related to crypto. So, the explanation that it was a mere flagging mistake looks dubious at best.

The call for a decentralized platform has been heard many times, but the ongoing purge is a clear example of why decentralized platforms have become a necessity at this point in time.
